Leave any time.
Know what you get back.
Monthly plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel yourself in a minute. Refunds are generous where a mistake is cheap to fix and firm where a service has already been delivered. Source checks paid in USDC are final once a result is released and never charged when the check fails.
How Dev and Pro subscriptions work.
Dev and Pro are monthly subscriptions. When you subscribe, Stripe charges your card for the first month immediately and the same amount on the same day of each following month, plus any tax that applies where you are, until you cancel. The price you agree to at checkout is the price you pay until we give notice of a change (Section 8).
At checkout you are shown the plan, the monthly price, that it renews automatically, and how to cancel, and you give express consent to the recurring charge as a separate step from accepting the Terms. Stripe emails you a receipt for every payment and a confirmation of the subscription terms that you can keep.
The plan attaches to the handle whose key started checkout. The same key gains the plan’s limits as soon as Stripe confirms payment, usually within seconds, and the account page and usage endpoint show the new plan.
How to cancel.
- Self-serve. Open the Stripe customer portal, enter the email address you used at checkout, and Stripe emails you a sign-in link. In the portal, choose the subscription and select cancel. You can also update your card and download invoices there.
- By email. Write to hello@vigilnotary.com from the email address you used at checkout, with your handle. We cancel within 2 business days and confirm by reply.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep the plan’s capacity until that date, and you are not charged again. Your key and your receipts stay; the account returns to the Free plan and capacity above Free limits is removed as described in Section 4. You do not need to revoke your key to cancel, and revoking your key does not cancel a subscription: do both if you are leaving entirely.
Only the person who controls the account can cancel it. If you have lost your key, cancel through the Stripe portal, which is tied to your checkout email, or email us with a Stripe receipt so we can identify the subscription.
When we refund.
| Situation | Refund | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| First charge on a new subscription | Full | Request within 14 days of the charge. No reason needed. Once per handle. |
| Renewal you meant to cancel | Full, for that renewal | Request within 7 days of the charge and the account did not use capacity above Free limits after the renewal. |
| We discontinue a paid capability, materially reduce a paid plan, or terminate your subscription without cause | Pro-rated | Automatic for the unused part of the current period. |
| Extended outage or a fault on our side that stopped you using what you paid for | Credit or partial refund | At our discretion. Email us with what happened and when. |
| Termination for breach of the Terms, chargeback, or payment dispute | None | See Section 9. |
| Any other partial month, unused capacity, or change of mind after 14 days | None | Cancel to stop the next charge. |
To request a refund, email hello@vigilnotary.com from your checkout email with your handle and the date of the charge. Refunds go back to the original card through Stripe, usually within 5 to 10 business days depending on your bank. A refunded subscription is cancelled at the same time and the account returns to the Free plan immediately, with capacity above Free limits removed as described in Section 4.
Where the law where you live gives you a longer or broader refund right than this page, that law applies (Section 10).
What happens to your data on a downgrade.
When a subscription ends, is refunded, or is downgraded, the account moves to the lower plan and its limits are enforced immediately, in this order:
- Watchdogs. The oldest watchdogs up to the new limit are kept. Newer ones are deleted and stop alerting.
- Leases. The oldest active leases up to the new limit stay active. Newer active leases are revoked, and a correctly enforcing gateway will deny their next gated action within the recheck deadline.
- Journal. The most recently updated slots up to the new limit are kept. Older slots are deleted and cannot be recovered.
- Receipts. Nothing is deleted. Receipts are permanent. The daily receipt allowance drops to the new plan’s limit.
- Calendar submissions. Past submissions remain; on-demand submission and proof export stop.
Export journal content and note which watchdogs and leases matter before you cancel. We cannot restore deleted journal slots or watchdogs.
Changing plans.
Upgrading from Dev to Pro. Start a Pro checkout with your existing key. The account gains Pro limits as soon as Stripe confirms payment. Each plan is a separate Stripe subscription, so after you upgrade, email hello@vigilnotary.com with your handle and we cancel the Dev subscription and refund the unused part of its current month pro rata.
Downgrading from Pro to Dev. Email us. We cancel Pro at the end of its current period and send you a Dev checkout link to start on the day Pro ends, so you are never billed for both. Section 4 applies to capacity above Dev limits.
Moving a plan to a different handle. Plans are bound to the handle that paid. We can move a subscription to a new handle you control if you can make an authenticated request from both keys; otherwise cancel and re-subscribe.
Source checks paid in USDC.
When you are charged
A source check costs $0.03 USDC per request at the time of writing; the exact price, network, and recipient for each request are stated in the 402 payment terms your client receives. Your wallet signs a payment authorization, and Vigil submits it for settlement only when a completed result is released to you. If Vigil cannot retrieve or process the source, the request fails with an error code, nothing is settled, and no charge occurs. If settlement fails, no result is released.
A completed result is charged whether its verdict is supports, contradicts, mixed, insufficient evidence, or not assessed. You are paying for the bounded assessment and its evidence, not for a particular answer.
No refunds after a result is released
Payments for a released result are final. A verdict you disagree with, a source that turned out to be wrong, or an agent that bought more checks than you intended are not grounds for a refund. Set spending limits in the client and wallet you control.
Mistaken payments
Payments sent outside the x402 flow, to the wrong address, on the wrong network, in the wrong asset, in the wrong amount, or after the quote expired are not associated with any request and are generally unrecoverable. We have no ability to reverse a blockchain transaction and no obligation to trace or return such payments. Network and facilitator fees are yours.
Lost responses and uncertain settlements
If you paid and did not receive the result, do not pay again. Retry the identical request with the same idempotency key, or fetch the result with your recovery token, within 24 hours of the request. If the service reports that settlement is pending or unknown, wait; it never authorizes a second charge for the same request. If neither path returns your result, email us with the request identifier, the paying address, and the transaction identifier.
When we send USDC back
If we determine that a payment settled and no result was released because of an error on our side, we return the payment in USDC to the address that paid, on the same network, within 14 days of confirming the error, and we cover the network fee. Report the problem within 30 days of the payment so we can still find the records.
The Free plan.
Free is free: no card, no trial period, no conversion to a paid plan without your explicit purchase. Nothing on the Free plan is refundable because nothing is charged. We may change Free limits with at least 30 days’ notice on the site, and we may revoke Free keys that have been inactive for more than 12 months, as the Terms describe.
Price changes.
If a subscription price increases, we post the change on the site at least 30 days before it takes effect and send notice to the email on file with Stripe. The new price applies from your first renewal after the effective date. If you do not want to pay it, cancel before that renewal and you will not be charged again. Source-check prices may change between requests; the 402 payment terms for each request are authoritative, and an agent should read them before every purchase rather than caching a price.
Chargebacks and disputes.
If something is wrong with a charge, email us first. We resolve nearly every billing problem within a business day, and a refund from us reaches you faster than a dispute does. If you open a card dispute or chargeback without contacting us, the subscription is cancelled and the account returns to the Free plan immediately, capacity above Free limits is removed, and we may close the account and decline future subscriptions. We provide Stripe with the records of your consent at checkout and your use of the service.
Consumer rights.
Vigil is offered to businesses and professionals. If you are buying as a consumer in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a contract for a digital service within 14 days without giving a reason. Because the service starts as soon as you pay, we ask at checkout for your express consent to immediate performance and your acknowledgment that the statutory right ends when the service has been fully performed. Our own 14-day full refund on a first charge (Section 3) is at least as generous as the statutory right and applies regardless. Nothing on this page limits any right that the law where you live does not allow to be limited.
Contact.
